Scarce M.E.F. overprinted first day cover
This is a military First Day Cover issued March 2, 1942, with the date and intended recipient in Massawa (Eritrea) printed on the front, for stamp-collecting service personnel in World War II. It was for the new set of King George VI definitives, and has each of the 1d, 2d, 2½d, 3d and 5d overprinted M.E.F. and cancelled MASSAUA ERITREA 2.3.42.
The sender/recipient, Lieutenant G Fothergill, has added his name in place of the printed name, and in light pencil manuscript on the reverse flap reveals: "This was stamped on first day of issue within 5 mins of first sold"!
Good condition; very scarce item.
